Russell Leon Tanner, of Marianna, Arkansas was born October 11, 1953, in Melbourne Arkansas, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 3, 2024, in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Russell led a full and varied life, excelling in multiple careers. He was a highly skilled mechanic, a dedicated Law Enforcement Officer, and he proudly retired as a Captain for the Cherokee Village Fire Department. His professional journey reflected his diverse talents and unwavering commitment to serving others.
He was the beloved son of Noel Tanner and Earthy Mozell Hollingsworth.
Russell's life was rich with hobbies and passions: he loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, tinkering with small engines, and most importantly, spending quality time with his family and friends. His hands were never idle, always busy with a project or helping someone in need. Russell was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Marianna, Arkansas.Russell was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Vonda Gayle Abney Tanner. He leaves behind a loving family, including his wife Deborah Kay Forrest Odle Tanner; his sons Gary (Sara) Tanner of Ash Flat, Arkansas, and Stephen (Ashley) Tanner of Salem, Arkansas; his step-daughter Jennifer (Robert) Mooney of Marianna, Arkansas; his siblings Nolita (Dan) Hollowell of Damascus, Arkansas, Elisha (Ed) Copeland of Center, Texas, Lewis Tanner of Dyersburg, Tennessee, and Alaina Sanchez of Clifton, New Jersey; his grandchildren Matthew (Kelsey) Tanner, Lucas Tanner, Allyson Tanner, Malachi Tanner, Vivian Tanner and Sammy Forster ; his step-grandchildren Josh (Salem) Mooney, Allie Mooney, and Tucker Mooney; his step-great-grandchild Waylon Mooney; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews & other extended family.
Russell's life will be celebrated by his family and friends, who will cherish his memory and the love he shared with them. His legacy of hard work, dedication, and love for life will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Russell will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain with those who loved him.
Mr. Tanner's memorial service will be Saturday July 27, 2024, at 11:00 am at Friendship Baptist Church 3712 HWY 1 South Marianna, Arkansas. Bro. Charles McKendree will be officiating.
