Obituary

Zella Lee Mathews, age 94, was born July 13, 1926 in Osage, OK to Arkansas migrant workers: William Warner Clark and Amanda Bell Reece Clark. Mrs. Mathews met her appointed time on March 6, 2021 at home with her family.

She lived her adult life in Lee County, Arkansas and married Terrell Vernon Mathews on July 29, 1944. He was immediately drafted into the Army.  She became an avid helpmate and homemaker, loving Christ and following His Commandments, as she understood them wholeheartedly.  She demonstrated love and compassion to all she met; always making family a priority. She was a long time member of Walls Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of forty-five years; two brothers: Charles Edward Clark at 5 mos and William Warner Clark, Jr. at 7 months; three sisters: Kathleen Fritz, Leoda Brown, Porshia Alvarez; great-grandchildren, Garrett Parson, Jared Tanner Morris and Jayden Lee Morris.

She is survived by one sister: Shirley Melbos of Mt. View, AR; Brother-in-Law Jerry Mathews of Palestine, Sister-in-Law Marlene (Hashel) Colvin of Texas; two sons: James (Frances) Mathews and Terry Mathews; both of Palestine, AR; two daughters: Pauline (Rickey) Ray of Tallassee, AL, and Jane Harley of Palestine, AR; six grandchildren: James Anthony (Tracy) Morris, Michele (Jeffery) George, Duane Brett (Jody) Hartley, Tammy (Ed) Jackson, Kelly (Greg) Parson and Tracy (Jim) Bailey; eleven great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held at Morgan Chapel, Monday, March 8, 2021 at 2:00 PM with James Anthony Morris officiating.  Burial will follow at Mars Hill Cemetery on LEE 814. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the services (1:00PM) on Monday afternoon.

Pallbearers are: Joshua, Jordan, Jonathan Morris, Preston, Nathan Hartley, Jake Lawson;  Honorary Pallbearers are Hunter and Mathew George, James Aaron, Matthew Parson and Jacob Morris.
